Trading API

@sagar_developersupport

@sanjeev_developersupport

We got an email from eBay's Partner Network (aka Affiliate Network for commissions, etc.) stating "By the end of this year, eBay Partner Network will no longer support eBay’s Finding API, Shopping API, or Trading API..." (see attached for full email)

I thought it was strange the email came from eBay's Partner Network, as the Trading API is really under the eBay Developers Program from what I understand. Needless to say I asked eBay's PN team about the email for clarification, but they just deferred to the eBay DP API Deprecation Status page:

https://developer.ebay.com/docs/api-deprecation

I don't see any indication that the Trading API will be discontinued in full by end of 2021, but can anyone else comment or clarify on this? It appears some of the calls within eBay's Trading API are in the process of being deprecated, but not the entire Trading API call library...at least yet.

1) Is the Trading API ending functionality by end of 2021?

2) If not, has an end date been set for the end of Trading API functionality?

Thank you.

everything is said in that email, you just have to read:

https://partnerhelp.ebay.com/helpcenter/s/article/eBay-Legacy-APIs-Migration-Basics?language=en_US

https://partnerhelp.ebay.com/helpcenter/s/article/eBay-Legacy-APIs-Migration-Paths?language=en_US#Summary

ebay never said that any API will be gone - the email came from the EPN and is only related to everybody who is doing EPN related stuff, like working with affiliate links.

We reached out to EPN several times and they still insist that the Trading API is no longer supported by all of eBay. We asked their support if they meant only for EPN purposes, and they insisted that it would be discontinued across its entirety, and if you're using calls like the Trading API they'll quit working in the next month without migrating. We finally realized they have no authority to make such a claim being outside the developer network, but frustrating they keep insisting and circulating misinformation. They really should clarify and state that the EPN is merely disconintuing support for Trading API within the EPN purposes, but for whatever reason they don't correct it and clarify.

to be fair: if your read the email and more important the links, you clearly see that only a hand full of calls are related to all this. they clearly could have chosen a less offending title and mention that only "a few calls" are related. telling that any api will be dead is of course a very unhappy misleading information. besides that: if the trading would be dead tomorrow, eBay would kill itself because most systems in the world rely on this most important api.

Browse API (item_summary-search) is very limited compared to the Finding API (findItemsAdvanced).

Browse API returns much fewer results, and if you try to set the "limit" or "sort" parameter the item totals are very different.

Keyword: macbook pro

FINDING API -> findItemsAdvanced
https://svcs.ebay.com/services/search/FindingService/v1?OPERATION-NAME=findItemsAdvanced&SERVICE-VERSION=1.13.0&GLOBAL-ID=EBAY-US&RESPONSE-DATA-FORMAT=JSON&keywords=macbook pro&itemFilter(0).name=HideDuplicateItems&itemFilter(0).value=true&itemFilter(1).name=AvailableTo&itemFilter(1).value=US

Total Items = 431,039 items

BROWSE API (item_summary-search)
X-EBAY-C-MARKETPLACE-ID: EBAY_US
limit=50

https://api.ebay.com/buy/browse/v1/item_summary/search?q=macbook pro&filter=buyingOptions:{FIXED_PRICE|BEST_OFFER|AUCTION},deliveryCountry:US

Total Items = 205,878 items

BROWSE API (item_summary-search)
X-EBAY-C-MARKETPLACE-ID: EBAY_US
limit=50
sort=newlyListed

https://api.ebay.com/buy/browse/v1/item_summary/search?q=macbook pro&filter=buyingOptions:{FIXED_PRICE|BEST_OFFER|AUCTION},deliveryCountry:US&sort=newlyListed

Total Items = 154,111 items
