"The secret Id is invalid." - When generating Auth'n'Auth token

Hello guys


I have an application that makes use of ebay API and because of a recent password changing, my token was no longer valid.

I then went into the developer/keys area (https://developer.ebay.com/my/keys) in order to generate a new token but I get a "The secret Id is invalid." right after the agreement screen (that pops up when I click "Sign in to production".


Do you guys have any clues on what I could be missing?

Hi @shopclan,

This error is an indicator that your secretId is invalid for the user you are specifying. You need to make sure that you are using the same secretId that was passed to the 3rd party auth signin page when the end user signed in.

Thanks for your answer.

Have you checked the screenshots I have attached? I may be wrong but I guess you are suggesting something that has nothing with my actual problem.

This error has purely happened on the ebay developer website, while I tried to generate a user token.

I have problem same as shopclan, I getting token for my ebay account (via the UI) by click to generate token Auth'n'Auth -> Sign-in my ebay account -> click Agree to grant permission but error show "The secret id is invalid"

I also tried to get token by FetchToken api but still failed.

So what should I do?

Hi @shopclan, Was your issue ever resolved and if so could you share? I bought a module from a company I am having the same issue, they state that it is with eBay.

Update: Ebay has finally admitted that this is a bug in their platform. Unfortunately no good news for when it will get resolved:

"We filed a ticket that describes the issue with the appropriate engineering team. The team evaluates, prioritizes, and addresses an issue based on the impact it has on the API operations and other business logic. Your important issue will be handled accordingly, but may take time to triage and resolve."

Hi @shopclan,

I found out this way can get token that will expired every 2 hours. After signed-in to your ebay developer account, go to this link https://developer.ebay.com/my/api_test_tool?index=0&env=production and press Get OAuth User Token it will generate a token for your ebay store but its lifetime is only 2 hours, after that you have to repeat to get new token.

I read some article they said that we can refresh token but cannot do through the eBay Developers Program site, you must follow the procedure here to get a refresh token: https://developer.ebay.com/api-docs/static/oauth-authorization-code-grant.html , its complicated, im trying to do but still fail now :(

Thanks for the information, mate. However in my case I'm not using oAuth, I'm using Auth'n'Auth. Hopefully this will help others :)

As a matter of other people's visibility (including @ashley , who is facing the same), I have paid for ebay's Premium support ($ 75 an hour) for solving this issue, which apparently is a bug in their system. I wouldn't bother paying if the level of support was decent.

However my experience so far is their support is appalling. It has been 4 days and since my very first contact, most of the answers I have received were either unclear/confusing or had nothing to do with the actual problem. Every time someone replies to me, I reply back instantly, but it doesn't matter how quick I do, as the next response will only come in, at least, 24 hours.

Up until now, no solution has been given and I have to deal with a terrible customer support down the line - and on the top of that, expensive!

Another important technical notes:

  • I have tested this with different developer accounts and they all presented some sort of error. Another error that eventually pops up is: error '500 - it is not you, it is us' ( see https://i.ibb.co/mvCdHY8/DSCN4129-2.jpg )
  • I have also tried rotating the "Cert ID (client secret)" and it just didn't make any effect
  • Changing both passwords for both my developer account and production account and repeating the previous steps
