Why is user authentication even required for the catalog API?

I'm using the catalog API on a desktop app, needles to say implementing oauth on anything that's not a web app is a huge pain with the way that it's structured with tokens expiring and such, but the catalog is public, anyone can search it there's no reason to require a user sign-in to call this API.

Hi @ computeroverhauls, All eBay REST APIs use the OAuth 2.0 protocol for application and user authorization. OAuth is the industry standard for assuring your online transactions are secure and you must provide a valid access token for each request you make to the eBay REST interfaces.
