VariationID from GetSingleItem

Hi, After the user customises an item by using several dropdowns I would like to display a link which takes him to this specific version on eBay as opposed to the generic version which shows "Select" for each dropdown. eBay has an internal way to do this, eg: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290947627759?var=590146581608 Inseam, bottom size and color dropdowns are already populated. Another example http://www.ebay.com/itm/Levis-501-Original-Mens-Straight-Leg-Jeans-64-68-NWT-/111496862891?pt=US_CSA_MC_Jeans&var=410579678800&hash=item19f5bb1cabasda (The link also works as http://www.ebay.com/itm/111496862891?var=410579678800) From the above it is clear that the "var" parameter stores an ID for specific combination of variations. I could not see any options for this in the GetSingleItem documentation ( http://developer.ebay.com/devzone/shopping/docs/callref/GetSingleItem.html). Can anyone help please? Thank you very much, Balint

I see the problem is with building a similar drop down without having usable raw data in the API. Usable item specifics and options like this disappeared in favor of the less useful Aspect and Domain histogram information (domains are gone now too). There's no cross-referenceable data between the two APIs for SKU or images that can be used either. But looking at the eBay page for the item I see data objects in the listing that detail all the variations (example below). That might be useful if you can parse it out. You might have to pull additional data to decode some of the codes like color (which appears to be coded in hex and in decimal in different locations. Whether it's worth the effort is your call. You can submit it as a request and add it to the comments for the doc pages and you might see it in future releases. Hi clickprime, Thank you very much for your answer. It is quite disappointing that this basic feature cannot be easily implemented. One additional question, how do I submit it as a request? Thanks, Balint

This thread is 5 years old. Is it already somehow possible to find the VAR number using the API?

@Balint: 3 channels I'm aware of through which you may be able to send a feature request for the eBay Dev platform: 1) Post on the [eBay Dev Feedback forum][1]. 2) [Email them directly][2]. 3) Relay your request via a paid tech support ticket from [within your account][3]. (Tip: mention it in a support ticket you already have open.) I've gotten the sense that eBay Dev is generally hesitant to further update Shopping API calls, but GetSingleItem is such a powerful and standard call, perhaps they'd be open to improving it. Hey @clickprime, Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, this will not solve my problem. I would like to be able to send the user to the correct eBay URL after they customised the item on a product page not from a search result page. My application displays items from a given eBay user using the findItemsAdvanced call. Visitors can browse from these items. After they click on a specific item, the details page is shown where I display the dropdowns for the variations. After this point I would like to be able to have a URL which sends them to eBay with the variation dropdowns already set to what the user has selected on my site. Thank you for your help. Balint

GetSingleItem returns the variations if you request them but not the var numbers. Finding's findItemsAdvanced returns the var numbers in the viewItemURL node. Just pass the item number on the keywords= parameter to get all the variations.
